Hudsonville High School
Wyatt VanAssen (senior RB/WR, #21) rushed for 119-120 yards and 2 touchdowns on 18-20 carries in Hudsonville’s 42-14 OK Red win over Grand Haven on Friday, September 11, 2026. Hudsonville jumped out to a 27-0 halftime lead and improved to 2-1 overall (1-0 conference). VanAssen was the Eagles’ workhorse on the ground and the game’s top rusher. He scored on a 2-yard run on Hudsonville’s opening possession (7-0, 4:32 left in the first quarter) and added a 6-yard wildcat touchdown later in the first half (21-0, 3:23 left in the second). He had 16 carries for 102 yards and both scores by intermission. The versatile 5-foot-9, 155-pound back (class of 2027) helped Hudsonville control the line of scrimmage early against a Grand Haven team that entered 2-0. Hudsonville added more scoring in the third quarter before both teams traded fourth-quarter scores. Teammate Trey Snip threw for 3 TDs (7-of-8, 94 yards), and CJ Beckham had 4 receptions for 35 yards and a score. VanAssen also contributed as a receiver and returner in prior weeks (including a punt-return TD in Week 2), but this game highlighted his running ability in a balanced, run-heavy attack. Hudsonville hosts Grandville next.

Mayson Burgett
Dansville High School
Mayson Burgett put the entire game on his shoulders Friday night, and Dansville left Potterville with a 38-7 statement win. The Aggies ATH went 16-of-28 for 304 yards and four passing touchdowns, added 45 rushing yards and a score on eight carries, and picked off two passes on defense as Dansville improved to 3-0. For a program that just moved down to 8-man football, it was the kind of two-way night that explains why the Aggies are 3-0 for the first time in 17 years. Burgett did not just manage the offense. He attacked it. Completing 57 percent of his throws for more than 10 yards per attempt, he kept Potterville’s secondary guessing and pushed Dansville’s passing game past 300 yards. The four touchdown tosses set the tone; the rushing score made it personal. When the pocket collapsed, he tucked it and finished drives himself, turning eight carries into a 5.6-yard average and another trip to the end zone. The defensive half of the box score was just as loud. Two interceptions from the quarterback/safety hybrid flipped field position and slammed the door on any Potterville comeback. In 8-man football, one athlete who can throw, run, and take the ball away is a mismatch. Burgett was that mismatch for four quarters. Dansville already had blowout wins in the books after a 48-6 opener over Fulton and a 28-16 result against Our Lady of the Lakes. Friday was different: a road league game, a 31-point margin, and a complete performance from the player wearing No. 7. Potterville dropped to 2-1. The Aggies kept rolling.
