Joel Cranmore is our NXTGEN Player of the Week after a seven-touchdown night that almost stole a thriller. On Thursday, Sept. 3, Leslie hosted Jonesville and fell 64-62 in triple overtime. The final conversion stop went to Jonesville. The night still belonged to Cranmore. The senior quarterback completed 12 of 26 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns and added 13 carries for 177 yards and three rushing scores. That is seven touchdowns and 443 yards of offense in a game that would not end. Leslie was ranked among the Division 7 favorites. Jonesville came in and refused to leave. Three overtimes later, Cranmore had still done everything a quarterback can do. He threw the Blackhawks back into the lead. He ran them back into the lead. When regulation turned into extra periods, he kept answering. Leslie scored in overtime. Leslie scored again. In the third extra session the Blackhawks found the end zone one more time. Jonesville made the last stop on the two-point try, and that was the difference. This is who Cranmore is. He is the face of a Leslie offense built to score in bunches, a dual-threat who can beat you from the pocket or keep it himself. Week 1 he carved up Stockbridge. Week 2 he put up a Player of the Week line in a loss that will be talked about all season. Seven scores against a team that just would not go away is not a consolation prize. It is proof the Blackhawks can hang 62 on a good opponent and still have their quarterback as the best player on the field. Leslie is 1-1. The scoreboard did not go their way. Cranmore’s night did. Congratulations to Joel Cranmore. That was a statewide player of the week type performance. Keep slinging it.
